Featured Artist: Che Broadway

“Che Broadway's lyrics are musical graffiti tattooed on the mind in the colorfully diverse ink of hip-hop's ancient hues, delivered by an urban storyteller that captures life experiences in bars and hooks and releases them through the art of verse.”
-Randy Townsend, Da Book Magazine/InQ Magazine.

Che Broadway was New York born and Brooklyn bred. His universal sound is flourishing with today’s influx of new and exciting talent. Broadway is a technical “Emcee” with a smooth, near intoxicating flow, coupled with an angelic-slash-demonic delivery. These aspects alone create a force to be reckoned with in the underground movement. But the trait that sets Broadway apart from the rest is his subject matter. He masterfully intertwines a full spectrum of reality checking with dynamic scene layout creating a vivid picture for the listener in every verse.

Although Broadway showed promise in school, excelling in literature, writing, science, history, music, and acting, he never adapted to the theory of curriculum, thus not being able to reach his potential, scholastically. In its stead, Broadway experienced every aspect of his environment, and it shows in his lyrical content. He did whatever he had to do to survive while he honed his craft. Battling anyone who challenged, and many who didn’t; snatching every open mic he could find; performing everywhere he could, thus creating an impressive resume of venues and a steady following of hardcore fans.

Since 2003, Broadway has been distributing a ten track Promo CD, entitled “The Sangraal.” Along with the club favorite, “Sexy Muthaf__ka,” and a sampler version of “How 2 get Down,” which is familiar to the Meziah & ILL Shado (alias’) fans of BlackInQ.com and Freestyling.com, there are several spectacular performances on this free CD. The Sangraal is a “must have” for all hip-hop and true EmCee fans alike. To date, in excess of 10,000 copies of “The Sangraal” have been distributed by hand, on the street and at shows, and via the Internet. The songs from this promo CD are also available for free download in the media section of Alympik.com. Since the website’s launch, there have been over 50,000 separate downloads of these tracks.

Broadway has been involved with many groups over the years. He has been most notably known as an MC and a poet/spoken word artist. His talents allow him the flexibility necessary to wear many hats. He is also a certified DigiDesign Pro Tools recording engineer as well as a NY State certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), a graphic designer, and an actor/filmmaker. Along with a few independent films on his résumé, under the name Dwight Denzel, he also co-stars in a commercial for the clothing line Reggae Rags, which currently airs in Jamaica and on local NY channels.

Che Broadway’s verbally exhibited thoughts have been showcased at such places as: S.O.B.s (NYC), Peppers (NYC), Nuyorican Poets Café (NYC), The Bowery Poetry Club (NYC), Remote Lounge (NYC), The Stinger Club (BKNY), Luxx/Trash (BKNY), Buttafly (BKNY), Despot 88 (BKNY), Forest Hills Stadium (Queens, NY), Metropole (Pittsburgh), Cozumel's (Pittsburgh), Deli Company (Pittsburgh), Kensington (San Diego), The Yin Yang Music Café (Atlanta), Rider University (NJ), SUNY New Paltz (NY), Temple University (PA), American International College (MA), BlackInQ.com, RadioHipHop.com, Freestyling.com, RapMusic.com, Spitboxers.com, as well as infinite open mics, battles, and block parties across the globe. Broadway has appeared in magazines such as InQ, Da Book, Q, Mass Appeal, Timeout, L, and Connex List. He has opened for hip-hop greats like Kool G. Rap & KRS-ONE, as well as Busta Rhymes, Mobb Deep, Buckshot, Heltah Skeltah, Smif-N-Wessun, Sunz of Man, Wu-Tang Clan and more.
